Domestic violence in relationships is an awful part that affect both Women & Men. The current statistics in the UK statistics in the UK states that 1 in 4 women will be a victim of domestic violence in their lifetime and that on average 2 women every week are killed by their current or former male partners (sources: womensaid.co.uk). In the case of Men 1 in 6 Men will be a victim of domestic violence in their lifetime and approximately 4 millions men suffer every year from domestic violence(sources:National centre for domestic violence). Having seen the damage domestic violence can have on someone, as one of my childhood friend had a father that was violent towards his wife. In the later years I could see several marks on the women face, where she had no teeth left and where she had been several times to hospital having suffered hammer blows to the head. My childhood friend suffered emotionally from this abuse to his mum, visiting his mum in hospital and seeing his mum beating up several times in front of him. Domestic Violence is not due to color, gender or culture. Respect has to be given to the person that’s in our lives. As my mother always said to my sisters “if a person loves you, no matter what they will never hurt you physically, if he/she does the person does not love you” We hear about many domestic violence victim being killed by their current or former partner, no matter how much you love the person you should realise very fast that the other person does not have the same respect for you, and should leave him/her before its too late. You can find information on the signs of domestic abuse on this website helpguide.org, where you can find informations on the sign of abuse & abusive relationships.
